MP Bassil Fuleihan laid to rest in Beirut
Lebanese
former economy minister and MP Bassil Fuleihan will
be laid to rest in a massive funeral shortly, hours
after his body arrived in Beirut from Paris on board
the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's private jet.
Fuleihan was badly burned in the blast that killed
Hariri in February. He died from his injuries at
a Paris hospital Monday.Basil Fuleihan was in the
car with Hariri when a large bomb ripped through
their motorcade in Beirut. Hariri died instantly
but Fuleihan survived despite bad burns to more
than 90 percent of his body. His funeral procession
in the Lebanese capital will start on foot from
the late Hariri's home in Koreitem. He will be carried
to his residence in Sanayeh and then be carried
on foot again towards the Government Palace and
the Protestant Church in downtown, where the funeral
procession will be held. Only his family will take
place in his burial later at the Anglo-American
cemetery in Beirut. Fuleihan was one of the Hariri's
top aides and was credited for the success of many
of his economic policies. Fuleihan, in his early
40s, is survived by a wife and two young children.
